As Lee Roy Parnell recuperates from surgery, Mike Durham will be filling in for him on guitar.
Great Southern, the Dickey Betts Band and Dickey Betts and Great Southern were founded back in 1977 by Dickey Betts, when the Allman Brothers went on hiatus. The original band included such notable luminaries as Dan Toler, Frankie Toler, Warren Haynes, Alan Woody, Johnny Neel.
Officially blessed by Dickey, today’s Great Southern has some of the original members from back in the late 90’s when Dickey reconstituted the band. The group includes David Stoltz on bass, Mark Greenberg on drums, Matt Zeiner on keys and vocals, and Kris Jensen on sax. Having rehearsed, toured, and recorded together for the last 20+ years, the band has an authenticity and chemistry worthy of carrying on the legacy of the music of Dickey Betts & The Allman Brothers Band.
Fronting the band is Country Slide Guitar Master Lee Roy Parnell who has his own unique performance history with the Allman Brothers Band going back over 30 years. Rounding out the band is his protégé, Brian “Willie” Williams. Together, they bring back the sounds of Duane Allman and Dickey Betts in the late 60’s prior to Duane’s untimely passing. Filling out the band is Santiago Moyano, a percussionist, arranger and Bolero singer, originally from Argentina.
